Open floorplans are the ultimate touchdown for Super Bowl hosting, creating a seamless, interconnected space where guests can socialize in the kitchen, great room, or dining area without missing a single play.  By eliminating walls, hosts can entertain in the kitchen while staying fully engaged with the game.

The "Game Day" Advantage of Open Spaces

When hosting the big game, an open-concept layout is a game-changer. It transforms a traditional, compartmentalized home into a high-energy, social hub. Whether you are prepping wings in the kitchen or cheering from the sofa, the flow allows for constant engagement.

  • The Social Kitchen: Instead of being trapped behind a wall, the host is part of the action. Kitchen islands become buffet stations, keeping food central without blocking views.
  • Maximum Visibility: Guests can wander from the living room to the snack bar without missing key moments, as sightlines to the television are maximized.
  • Flexible Flow: Open spaces prevent the cramped, awkward navigation of traditional homes, allowing people to mingle comfortably even during a crowded party.

Designing for the Big Game

To make your open floor plan work for the Super Bowl, optimize your space to focus on the action:

  • Central Viewing: Arrange furniture in a way that allows for maximum viewing, often using large, comfortable sofas in a U-shape or L-shape oriented towards the screen.
  • Versatile Seating: Utilize kitchen bar stools, dining chairs, and living room seating to create various, comfortable spots, keeping some areas open for standing and socializing.
  • Indoor-Outdoor Transition: If you have an open-concept home that flows into a patio or sunroom, use it! In warmer climates, these spaces are ideal for extending the party.

A New Era of Entertaining

The shift away from formal dining rooms towards expansive living-kitchen-dining spaces has redefined home entertaining, particularly for large, casual gatherings like Super Bowl Sunday. Embracing an open floor plan isn't just about modern design; it's about creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone feels like they have the best seat in the house.

Perfect Plans

Our new Evan Claire floorplan would be perfect for the Super Bowl.  It combines the kitchen, casual dining, and greatroom into one large, shared space, eliminating walls and doors to create a seamless, airy feel that promotes flow, interaction, and natural light.  This plan offers options to expand the hosting into a covered porch, screened in porch, or sunroom.  With flexibility, the Evan Claire is a spacious three-bedroom, two-bath home featuring an optional versatile upper-level bonus room (perfect for a playroom, media room, home office, or 4th bedroom) and a third bath.

Another new floorplan is the Margaret.  She is an open-concept, two-story layout that seamlessly combines the kitchen, dining area, and great room on the main floor into one expansive, wall-free living space, prioritizing natural light and flow.  The kitchen acts as a central hub, featuring a large island that overlooks the dining and living spaces, while additional, quiet bedrooms are situated on the upper level for privacy.

If your mom/dad/spouse was a player on a football team...........

Several Isenhour Homes team members posed this question to our children / spouses:  If your mom/dad/spouse was a player on a football team, what position would they be and why?  The feedback was....good?

  • Coach - a coach commands the team (and she is bossy)
  • Linebacker - because a linebacker is a primary tackler and they are responsible for communicating plays
  • Slot Receiver - a slot receiver adds deception to the offense and serves as a bridge between the run and pass (given this team members height, he would make a good slot receiver)
  • Wide Receiver - because he is fast and the wide receiver is one of the fastest players on the field
  • Offensive Coordinator - since an offensive coordinator leads the team's offense, designing game plans, creating plays, and often call them during the game, she would be amazing at this position
  • Center - because it requires elite intelligence, consistent snapping, and strong, athletic blocking abilities
  • Waterboy - because all teams need a waterboy!
